Step 1: At a Glance Review
Regularly putting time aside to review how contented we are with the different aspects of our lives provides us with an at a glance view of what is currently working in our lives and can highlight areas that need our attention. It provides us with a starting point for change and a means of reviewing our progress over time.
It's important to be open, honest and non-judgemental when completing this exercise. There's no right or wrong so be as objective as possible. If 1 denotes a real discontentment and 10 denotes feeling fantastic and extremely contented, circle the score that best reflects how you currently feel about the different areas of your life. If certain categories are not relevant to you, then ignore them. Change or add to the list so that it represents your life.

- Look back over your scores. Which areas need your attention? Are there any surprises?
- For each area of your life collate what is currently working, identify what you want more of and what you may want less of. What could potentially prevent you from raising your scores?
Step 2: Create an Ideal Vision
Choose an area you would like to work on. Imagine that at some point in the future you will assign a score of 10. What would need to be happening to create this level of satisfaction and fulfilment for you? Put any obstacles aside for the moment, imagine you could only succeed and allow yourself the freedom to explore without limits in order to create an ideal vision. Note down all your ideas in a journal and review regularly to keep focused on your goal.
Step 3: Incremental Changes
The cumulative effect of small changes can make a significant contribution to our overall level of satisfaction and contentment. What do you need to do to increase your scores by two points?
This exercise can be a powerful way to clarify what we want and focuses our attention on the changes we wish to make. It is worth revisiting on a quarterly basis to ensure you are continuing to work towards what you really want in your life. Remember to reward yourself as you progress!
